It has been said that those that have body image and weight issue are more likely to isolate themselves. Studies also prove that a person who isolates themselves tend to suffer depression and premature death, to name a few.
Studies also prove that a low level stress response can cause a host of problems such as increase insulin and cortisol which tells your body to store fat, decrease in healthy gut bacteria which aids in digestion, decrease mitochondrial function aka your metabolism.
So what can cause a low level stress response? Of course our day to day lives, but here is something you may not know. Your brain can not tell the difference between real or imagined stress. Physical attack or our own self imposed negative thinking is one and the same to the brain. When we are hating on our body the brain perceives that as attack, punishing exercise (think Biggest Loser) to the brain that is stressful. Which can shut down your metabolism.
We are a culture that lives in the head, when is the kids practice, what's for supper, can I get the report deadline.
